As all cooking appliances vary, please refer to your machine's instructions.


Hand baking method
500g Sainsbury's Wholemeal Bread Mix
340ml water, lukewarm
25g butter/margarine or 1tbsp of oil, if desired
Put the mix into a large bowl, add the butter/oil and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Gradually mix in water to make a soft dough. Knead well on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic, then place it back in the bowl and cover loosely with lightly oiled cling film. Leave the dough in a warm place for about an hour to rise.
Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead well, place in a 2lb loaf tin and cover loosely with lightly oiled cling film. Leave the dough in a warm place for about half an hour. Remove cling film and bake in a preheated oven 230° (450°F, gas mark 8) for 30 minutes, 15 minutes for rolls, or until golden brown. Bread must be allowed to cool fully before storing in a dry, airtight container.
